Information we collect
- Account information. When you sign up we collect your email address, used for authentication and account recovery. You can sign in with Apple or with Google; in either case we receive the email address associated with that account, and nothing else from it.
- Profile information. A username, your selected leagues and teams, and an optional profile photo you choose to upload.
- Activity in the app. The votes you cast on cards, comments you post (including any GIF you attach to a comment), and the accounts you follow. Votes and comments are associated with your account.
- Device information. Basic technical data needed to run the app, such as your device type and, if you opt in, a push-notification token.
- Usage analytics. Which screens you open and which features you use, so we can see what is working and fix what is not. We use PostHog for this. We do not use analytics for advertising and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
We do not collect precise location, contacts, or payment information, and Stampede is free to use.
Information we derive
Some of what the app shows you is calculated from your own activity rather than collected from you. We think it is clearer to say so than to file it under “activity”:
- Fan DNA. A characterisation of how you take — for example how often you side with the majority and how often you go against it — computed from your voting history and shown on your profile.
- Streaks and counts. Consecutive days on which you have taken, and totals such as how many cards you have voted on.
- The Barometer. A per-club reading assembled from many fans’ votes. This one is an aggregate: it describes a club, not you, and it is not presented to anyone as your opinion.
These are produced by us from data already described above. They are not sold, not shared with advertisers, and they are deleted with your account.
How we use your information
- To create and secure your account and sign you in.
- To show your votes, comments, profile, and activity to you and, where applicable, to friends and other fans. Vote tallies are shown in aggregate; your individual votes are visible to the fans you connect with.
- To operate core features such as the swipe feed, results screens, comments, the Barometer, and the friend and follow system.
- To send notifications you have enabled.
- To keep the app safe: reviewing posted content against our community rules, and acting on reports.
How content is generated
Cards in Stampede are generated from publicly available sports news (ESPN RSS feeds) and processed by an AI service to write the card text. This process does not use or transmit your personal information.
How comments are moderated
Every comment is checked automatically when it is posted, and again if another fan reports it. To do this we send the comment itself to our AI moderation provider (Anthropic): the text you wrote, and, if you attached a GIF, a single still frame of that GIF. We do not send your name, email, or account identifier with it. The result is used only to decide whether the comment stays up, and moderation is fully automated. If a comment is removed you can reach us at the address below.
GIFs in comments
You can attach one GIF to a comment, chosen from a third-party catalog provided by Klipy. You cannot upload your own images or video, and GIFs cannot come from any other source.
- When you search for a GIF, the words you type are sent from our servers to Klipy, not from your device. Klipy does not receive your account, your email, or your device’s IP address with that search, and we do not store your searches.
- The GIF image itself is loaded directly from Klipy’s content network so we do not have to re-host it. That means your device requests the file from them, and, as with loading any image on the internet, they can see standard technical information such as your IP address and device type.
- Klipy has its own privacy practices, described at klipy.com.
How information is stored and shared
Your data is stored on our backend infrastructure provider (Supabase, which hosts our database and authentication). We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers needed to run the app and where required by law. Those providers are: Supabase (database and authentication), Apple and Google (sign-in), Expo (push-notification delivery), PostHog (usage analytics), Anthropic (AI card writing and comment moderation), Klipy (the comment GIF catalog), and Cloudflare (our website and shared-card links).
Data retention and deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account at any time from inside the app, in Settings → Delete Account. Deleting your account removes your profile, votes, comments, follows, and everything derived from them. If you have uninstalled the app, you can also request deletion without reinstalling it at stampede.fans/delete-account, or write to us at the address below if you would rather we handle it or if you want a copy of your data.
Children
Stampede is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
